Target audience for action films.

Action.

The target audience of action movies are males aged 12 and older. The age ratings for action films are usually 12/15, this is in order to maximise the audience that is largely made up of young adolescent males. It is aimed at this audience because males tend to be drawn towards action more than other genres eg. romance, another reason is because . The main protagonists in action films tend to be daring men aged between late twenties and late fourties, this is for the female audience as they pose as a sex object. This increases the target audience slightly as women may be more inclined to watch an action film if they are attracted to the main character - for instance Daniel Craig, Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. This stereotype of action heroes being male is subverted in films such as Salt, Lara Croft and The Hunger Games where the main protagonists are female. By doing this, it widens the audience as it is not so male orientated.
